BELLEVILLE , ILLINOIS ( KTVI)-  A Belleville man was arrested and changed with cruelty to animals. His neighbors were shocked and outraged to learn the fate of the man's dog . It's a sad case of animal neglect and abuse that happen  in Belleville on 23 rd Street.

Investigators say 48- year -old Robert Dickerson left his dog outside for days in sub-zero temperatures which lead to his dog's death.  Wade Johnstone is an animal lover and was Dickerson's neighbor for years. Wade says the news is heartbreaking . "I did not realize at first that he had not been bringing his his dog inside.  So I was surprised to hear that he did not take it in when the weather got so bad here lately," said Dickerson.

According to authorities Dickerson kept a padlock on the dog's collar. Residents  in the area say at one point animal officials threaten to take the dog away from Dickerson if they continued to receive complaints from neighbors. Johnstone claims Dickerson was never at home enough to take care of his a pet properly. "I knew him , I spoke with him on a regular basis. He wasn't quite there all the time. I never saw him abuse that dog. I never really saw him walk the dog either. The dog was always on a chain, " said Johnsstone.

The dog was found frozen to death inside his dog house by local animal rescuers. The dog's food dishes were filled with ice and snow.

A judge set Dickerson bail at - five thousand dollars.

It’s unlikely the dog froze to death. More likely was the dog died from dehydration and then froze after it died. Animals need more water in the winter months than they do in the summer. I hate when people put a spin on stories to sensationalize them. The hypocritical human society and peta are very good at this.

Veronica, unless a necropsy is performed we won’t know either way. However for us lay people I don’t suspect anyone is trying to sensationalize this story by the statement the “dog froze to death”. It’s sick and wrong no matter how you look at it and I hope this degenerate is kicked in the head by KARMA or anyone else.

Bottom line: The dog was left out in terrible weather conditions and was found frozen and dead. Whether it died from dehydration or cold is neither here nor there. the owner was an @sshole.

Veronica, there is NO EXCUSE for that kind of ignorant statements from someone who clearly has access to the correct information. If you don’t know what you’re talking about, you have no business saying anything at all.
