GLEN CARBON, IL (KTVI)-- A woman's death possibly related to last week's cold has now turned into a major investigation.
Glen Carbon police returned to the place where an elderly woman was found dead and frozen over the weekend.
Detectives and Illinois State Police crime scene units returned to the home along Illinois Highway 159 Tuesday morning.
The Glen Carbon police chief said the investigation is not connected to the death from earlier this week.
It all started with the death of 83-year-old Mary Kampwerth. Her body was discovered frozen in her driveway over the weekend.
According to investigators she died from the cold, that`s when police got a tip.
Bommarito Automotive SkyFox flew over the scene on Tuesday as Glen Carbon police, Illinois State Police and other crews swarmed the back of the property with digging equipment.
Focusing on a pond area, they`re looking for evidence linked to some type of criminal activity. The police chief said they still have a lot of work to do, but so far they haven't found anything.
Investigators checked 90 percent of the area and would not comment on what the crime was or who was involved.
The search was called off because of dropping temperatures and low lighting. Investigators will return on Wednesday at 10 a.m. as they try to answer the questions that drew them in.
