Super Bowl costs Missouri Ford dealership $300,000

ST. JAMES, MO (KTVI)– It’s been said luck is when opportunity knocks and you answer.

“Years ago we won a bag of groceries down here at the local grocery store,” says Jim Carey.

“This is much better than the turkey?” asks Patrick Clark.

“Oh yes, this is much better than the turkey,” laughs Carey.

Especially when you consider how Jim and Mary Jane Carey came to acquire their new pickup truck.

Anyone who bought a vehicle from Hutcheson Ford in St. James between Wednesday and Saturday were entered into their simple super promotion.

“If they ran the opening kickoff or the kickoff to start the second half back for a touchdown, your purchase price would be refunded to you,” says Michael Tucker the VP of Hutcherson Ford.

And when the second of half of the Bronco blowout began, all eyes were on Seattle Seahawk Percy Harvin.

“That’s why I lost a little of my voice because the kickoff of the second half,” says Carey.  “Whenever Percy started running I started screaming at the TV.”

“And it’s like, ‘Oh my God,`” says Tina Hines.  “There was this little angel going down the field.”  And then I said, “Hallelujah we won.”

It was an 87-yard kick return and a $300,000 loss for this dealership from Missouri’s wine country.

The odds of such a super touchdown?

Two and a half percent.

“It’s unbelievable,” says Ron Hines.  “Yeah it was crazy I still can’t believe it.”

“I can’t either,” adds Tina Hines.

“You’ve been pinching him?” asks Patrick Clark.

“Yeah,” laughs Ron.  “I’ve been pinching myself.”

In all, 12 individuals were winners in yesterday’s Denver drought.

“Percy Harvin ran it back 87 yards,” says Tucker.  “Isn’t that amazing?  What an athlete.”

“You’ll never forget him?” asks Clark.

“I’ll never forget him. He cost me a lot of money,” said Tucker.

Hey everyone! I’m the marketing manager for Hutcheson Ford, so I just wanted to clear up a few of the issues brought up by these comments.
We did purchase insurance on this promotion, but it was up to Fox2 to reveal which information they did and did not want in the story. Regardless, our dealership did not make any money on these 12 vehicles, and we are out the insurance money. :) We have the best customers in central Missouri who go above and beyond for us, so this promotion was an awesome way to give back!
We didn’t know that Percy Harvin was going to make this awesome play, but we’re glad he did! This was a Hutcheson Ford-only promotion, not Ford Motor Company.
If you have any questions, I’m the girl to ask! kathleen@hutchesonford.com or 573.265.7015. Thank you!!

Stupidity? Really? You realize this is a gimmick and Hutcheson didn’t lose anything right? They paid for the promotion up front and the company they pay is the one who is out the money. Ok, so how the hell do you spend $300,000 on a Ford Truck.

I believe the $300,000 would be the cost of ALL the winners’ purchases, not just the one truck.

Why all the negativity? Who cares if it was the dealership or the insurance company that paid for the cars? Most likely, the insurance cost the dealership a lot and the win cost the insurace company a lot. It is nice to hear a positive story in the news and that twelve people had a “super” weekend.
