"Why not look at breaking up the city into more localized municipal structures, so people can keep more control over the tax money they have and how it can be used." said Bob Pieper of Common Sense for St. Louis.
"If we want the St. Louis region to be a major player in the world, we have to change how we do business. There is no question about that. We cannot continuing doing what we're doing and be a player on the world stage." said St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley.
"If we're working close together, there's no question we're going to be able to compete better for jobs and people. We have a lot of regional efforts, but it brings everybody together and have a more regional vision." said City Of St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.
Both Slay and Dooley say, any kind of big merger would be put to a vote of the people, in both the City and the County.
