Historic Goldenrod Showboat sold to local preservationists

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– The Historic Goldenrod Showboat was sold Wednesday to a group of local preservationists trying to bring the boat back to the St. Louis Riverfront.

But the group has only $40,000 of the $70,000 purchase price, so the sellers are giving them six months to come up with the rest of the money.

Their challenge becomes raising the substantial funds needed to restore the boat.

The Historic Riverboat Preservation Association plans to move the Goldenrod to the St. Louis Riverfront within a month if it passes its Marine inspection.

Their goal is to turn the Goldenrod back into a showboat that would be permanently moored near Laclede’s Landing.

The Goldenrod Showboat is an asset for the entire St. Louis area and should be supported as such. If everyone in the metropolitan area donated at least one dollar to the HRPA, it would go a long, long way toward restoring and reopening this special theater. . . and I don’t think anyone would miss the dollar.

After losing the Admiral, the Robert E. Lee, and about EVERYTHING from the era I remember on the St. Louis Riverfront, it would be WONDERFUL to preserve this special piece of history. I had some wonderful parties on the Goldenrod! Let’s get some fundraisers going!
