ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – St. Louis police shot a man accused of a late-night robbery at Natural Bridge and Kingshighway on Monday night. Johnny Phillips, 22, has been charged with Robbery 1st, Armed Criminal Action and Resisting Arrest. Deonte Phillips, 21, remains hospitalized and is listed in stable condition.
Police were responding to a hold-up in progress at the McDonalds at 4979 Natural Bridge. A suspect was last seen jumping fences and running towards San Francisco Avenue armed with a gun. Deonte Phillips matched the description of one of the suspects and was seen running past the police cars. Officers chased the suspect on foot. He turned around armed with a gun. Police then shot the suspect. He was taken to the hospital.
A car was spotted by police heading west from San Francisco Ave. onto North Kingshighway. After the officer got out of his vehicle the car sped off onto Kingshighway. Police believe that this car may have been involved with the robbery and officer involved shooting. They chased the vehicle until it crashed on Arlington. Johnny Phillips, 22, then abandoned his vehicle. Phillips was taken into custody a short time later.
Chief Dotson says officers recovered a gun, additional ammunition and the money taken in the robbery.
