Missouri Senate considers limits on union fees

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The Missouri Senate has halted debate on legislation that would curb the ability of public employee unions to collect and spend fees automatically deducted from workers’ paychecks.

The measure taken up and then set aside after five hours of debate Tuesday night would require some employees to give annual written authorization for fees to be deducted directly from their paychecks. Annual consent would also be required for a union to spend fees on political activities.

Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed similar legislation last year. To bypass another likely veto, this year’s bill would head to the ballot instead of his desk. The legislation would not apply to unions representing first responders.

Senate Republicans have called the measure a priority this year. The House passed a similar version earlier this year.

The right to work without mandatory union membership should be the law of the entire country. If the benefits for joining a union are valid, then workers will gladly join and pay dues. Forcing people to join a union just to be employed is a socialist tenant and has no place in this country. Unions fought for very positive changes when first started, but now we have labor laws to protect workers. Many unions have been corrupted by power and greed and need to cut-off from mandatory dues. When the union has to earn it’s dues, it will once again actually work FOR the worker.

Aw, quit with the “socialist this, socialist that”, getting tired and old. You wouldn’t know true socialism if it came and hit you in the face – which, god willing, it may do some day.

Like history shows us, it will someday be the only solution to the mess this country will be in after 30 long years of extremist right-wing garbage.

You have obviously worked very hard to achieve such a superior level of stupidity. I applaud your efforts! Not just anyone can demonstrate the level that you have obviously achieved!

Every time I read or hear some intellectually devoid person spout that nonsense about socialism, I wish them a visit of just a month in N Korea, China or the old Soviet Union. You have no idea as to what I know and wouldn’t have a clue to the fact that I was in the Soviet Union before the fall of communism there or on the Korean peninsula in the late 80’s for a year as part of my service. You wouldn’t last the month before you were imprisoned or worse.

More Missouri hick Republican trash: Government of the hick, by the hick, for the hick. Or government of the rich, by the rich, for the rich. Depends on the day: Tax breaks for the wealthy? For the rich. More guns or religion? For the hick.

This particular one’s for the rich.

Got a couple of guns & religion bills pending, too – to get the hick vote so they can keep serving the rich. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
