CAIRO, IL (AP) – Illinois State Police say two people died and a third was critically injured after a bank robbery in the Ohio River community of Cairo.

Authorities say Friday that the robbery at the First National Bank in far southern Illinois took place around 5:15 p.m. Thursday. That’s when a man entered the bank with a knife and a gun.

Investigators say a person of interest was taken into custody hours later, but so far no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing. The names of the victims haven’t been released.

Both of those who died worked for the bank.

Police say they’ll release more information later Friday.
