ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - What started as a traffic stop just north of downtown ended in a crash. The suspect along the driver of a car he hit trying to get away from police are both in the hospital. The accident happened about 11:40pm on Thursday.

Police say they pulled over a Grand Prix at 14th and Cole for a traffic stop. Instead of staying stopped, the 22 year old man driving the Grand Prix sped off. However, he didn't get very far. Investigators say he t-boned a Suburban with a 28-year-old man behind the wheel. Police say the 22-year-old tried to get out and run but police caught him after a brief foot chase. Both the 22-year-old and the 28-year-old were taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

It`s unclear why officers stopped the Grand Prix in the first place or why the driver tried to speed off. Nobody else besides the drivers were in either car. No officers were hurt.

14th and Cole is the next corner west of KNDL TV 30 and the Post Dispatch. I always thought that was Downtown, has Downtown boundaries retreated that much. When there is a crime in north Downtown it is referred to as North St louis, just like the crime at the store on 14th and Chouteau earlier in the week that was referred to south St Louis instead of south Downtown. North St Louis has enough crime in it’s boundaries without Downtown’s.
