ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Thieves have hacked into these devices and want money as ransom.

The hackers are demanding the victims to pay $100 in order to release the hold. The attack appears to work by compromising iCloud accounts. Hacked devices will typically emit a loud tone then show a message that reads "Device hacked by Oleg Pliss. For unlock device, you need send voucher code of $100 to this email to unlock it."

Experts advise you to use long, randomly generated passwords.
