Armed suspects captured after swimming to escape authorities

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, IL (KTVI) -St. Louis County and Illinois State Police chased armed burglary suspects from North St. Louis County on Thursday afternoon.  The suspects crashed their car, got out foot, and tried to escape by jumping into a lake.  They tried to swim for freedom.  But, their plan was caught on camera.  A helicopter tracked their every move.  The suspects have now been arrested by authorities.

Police say the 4 suspects were burglarizing a home in Jennings around 5 pm, giving the homeowners the surprise of their lives, when they walked in on burglars.  Two suspect were apprehended within a few blocks of the home. Police chased the 2 other suspects to a spot near westbound I-70 and Horseshoe lake.  Gunshots could be seen coming from the suspects car when police stopped it on the highway.  That is when the two got out of the vehicle and headed for the water.

Police say they found more than ten pounds of marijuana in the car that the 2 suspects used in the pursuit, crashing into a Horseshoe Lake.

No was hurt and no weapons have been recovered.

The police pursuit and capture was captured by Bommarito Automotive SkyFOX helicopter during the 5pm newscast.

    These two fine gentlemen were only re-enacting the underground railroad “freedom trail” from slave-state Missouri to free-man Illinois.
    I think they should sue the governments and have a historic marker placed where they were forced to jump into the swamp.
