Blunt: No answers yet on VA concerns in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS (AP) – U.S. Roy Blunt is expressing outrage that the VA has been slow to respond to concerns about mental health treatment for veterans at its St. Louis hospital, but the Republican is not among those urging the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki.
Blunt met Wednesday with officials at the St. Louis VA Medical Center. The meeting came about two weeks after the former chief of psychiatry claimed that veterans seeking mental health treatment in St. Louis often wait a month or more because too few patients are seen.
Blunt and his Missouri colleague in the Senate, Democrat Claire McCaskill, sent a letter on May 12 to Shinseki, seeking answers. Blunt says he has received no response.
A message seeking comment from the VA was not returned.
