EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KTVI) - The story of an abused dog nursed back to health in St. Louis is now going to be a movie. Shooting is underway in Edwardsville.
A young St. Louis woman adopted the dog and then wrote a children's book that became a bestseller. Cindy Willingbrock helped write the screenplay for Marshall the "Miracle Dog" movie. Filming began on Main street on Monday. The actors involved include American Pie's Shannon Elizabeth and Gossip Girls' Matt Settle.
The script is a bit different than the book. A boy named Finn has been added to the story. he moves to a new town and is harassed at school and he rescues Marshall and the two help each other.
They will be filming in Edwardsville until June 19 and then shoots a couple of scenes in St. Louis. The film is expected to be released the first of next year.
It does include a lot of locals who play extras. Some St. Louis kids also have minor speaking roles.
