CAMDENTON, Mo. (AP) A former central Missouri teacher has been sentenced to five years in prison for the statutory rape of a student who became pregnant.

KOLR-TV reports 41-year-old Jenner Shaffer was sentenced Tuesday in Camden County Circuit Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charge in March.

Shaffer taught English in the Macks Creek district. He was arrested in 2012 after the girl told investigators she had gone to Shaffer’s home several times in 2010 when she was 15 years old and he was her teacher.

The baby was a year old when the case came to light. Shaffer had left the Macks Creek school district by then and moved to the town of Wheatland.
