LINCOLN COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - A helicopter flying lesson goes terribly wrong at a small Lincoln county airport.
The crash occurred along the only runway at Greensfield Airport, which sits a short distance southwest of Moscow Mills in rural Lincoln County.
The Missouri Highway patrol tells Fox 2 there were two people on board the helicopter when it went down - a student pilot and the instructor. Neither of them have been identified; both walked away with only minor injuries.
The helicopter is a small two-seater is owned by HeliSat helicopter flight training school out of Moscow Mills which has been in business since 2007. The helicopter came to rest on its side and remained largely in tacked.
Investigators from the FAA and the Missouri Highway Patrol were on the scene shortly after the chopper went down, combing through the debris looking for any clues as to what may have gone wrong.
Witnesses on the scene tell Fox 2 this was not a case of the helicopter just falling from high up in the sky; but it’s not clear what kind of maneuvers were being done at the time of accident.
We reached out to HeliStat for a comment, but they declined pending the outcome of the accident investigation.
