(KTVI) - For weeks before the summer solstice, local emergency doctors were already seeing a rise in the temp outside and rise in patients inside emergency rooms.

St. Louis University Registered Nurse Helen Sandkuhl tells FOX2's Kim Hudson about the top injuries she sees as summer approaches. Nurse Sandkuhl said she is seeing a lot of people fall from ladders as they work on complex home repairs and rooftops. She is also seeing a lot of sunburns or heat illnesses as well as bites. Nurse Sandkuhl also said Do-It-Yourselfers are not the only ones falling. She is also seeing a lot more people injured after falling from trampolines, bikes or scooters.

To stay out of the E.R. Nurse Sandkuhl suggests:

1. Everyone wear sunblock.

2. Everyone drink plenty of water while outside.

3. Riders wear helmets when on bikes or scooters.

4. Try to have a partner hold ladders while someone else climbs.
