Strong to severe thunderstorms south of the St. Louis Tuesday afternoon

(KTVI)- Strong to severe thunderstorms have developed south of the St. Louis metropolitan area. These storms have a history of producing heavy rain, lots of lightning, moderate hail, and gusty winds.

These storms are firing along and ahead of a cold front that is moving through the region.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for portions of the FOX 2 News viewing area south and southeast of St. Louis until 10:00pm. Counties includes are Dent, Crawford, Washington, Iron, Reynolds, Madison, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, and Jefferson in MO and St. Clair, Monroe, Clinton, Washington, Marion, Jefferson, Perry, and Randolph Counties in IL.

These storms are expected to exit the region by Tuesday evening.
