ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Mehlville fire crews were called to the Hooters on Lindbergh near Lemay Ferry after a lightning strike on the front of the building set the building on fire. It all happened at around 9:20pm while a FOX2 crew was working on a news story about hail and lightning in the area. The crew heard numerous fire trucks fly by and discovered the Hooters right across the street was on fire. Six Mehlville fire trucks and 25 firefighters arrived on the scene. The power and gas are also turned off. Officials say it was the only lightning strike to cause a fire since the storm started.

FOX 2 viewers also sent in hail video from South County. Viewers say the storm started at 7pm and only lasted about 20 minutes.

As for St. Louis City there was a lot of rain and some hail. St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson tweeted pictures of hail in his neighborhood. There was also a report of a house struck by lightning at the 500 block of Chippewa.

Employees and customers at the Hooters were able to escape without injury.
