Illinois woman pleads guilty in boyfriend’s death

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (AP) _ A southern Illinois woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2011 stabbing death of her boyfriend.

According to the Effingham Daily News, 58-year-old Christine Burr of Dietrich pleaded guilty Monday in Effingham County Circuit Court in the death of Joseph Delaney. She also pleaded guilty to concealment of a homicidal death for disposing of his body and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Burr admitted stabbing Delaney to death in July 2011 in an angry outburst.

A hiker found his body less than a year later along the Embarras River near the town of Newton.

Dietrich and Newton sit just a few miles apart about 75 miles south of Champaign.
