CHICAGO (AP) _ Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is once again calling for legislation that would ban the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

The Democrat addressed the issue at a news conference on Sunday. He spoke in the Morgan Park neighborhood _ a South Side Chicago community that’s been affected by gun violence.

Quinn is specifically pushing for the passage of the Illinois Public Safety Act.

Under that proposed act, holders of Firearms Owners Identification Cards who now own assault weapons would be able to keep them. But they wouldn’t be allowed to transfer or sell them _ except to a family member.

Quinn says war is “being waged on our streets.” And he says it’s a war fueled in part by the availability of military-style assault weapons.

Typical clueless liberal democrat! Quinn, do you think those hood rats are using AR-15s? With brain dead democrats running the state, I see why Illinois is the sorry state that it is.

I don’t understand why the government just doesn’t ban murder. Maybe I’ll start one of the White House petition things.

Only in Illinois where there are more homocides each day would they want to ban more firearms and accessories.
Cause we all know that all of the criminals will obey these laws and everyone will be so much safer.
    Get a clue Quinn

The only thing Illinois citizens (legitimate) need to do is vote this idiot out of office. He does nothing but lie. Assault rifle bans will do nothing for the standard murderers that do not buy guns like law abiding citizens. These are the weapons that are sold by black market dealers.

Oh, Mr Quinn what about that temporary tax? You said it was temporary now you want to keep it so you can fatten your friends pockets. Say goodbye in next election.

ban all kinds of weapons, what will the result be? 1 year or 5 years from now the homicide and shooting rate will be same if not higher, as we all know the criminals with the iron are going to be the first ones in line to turn them in.
