(KTVI)- In response to the weekend violence, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is calling for new gun laws.

Yesterday he met with the family of one of the shooting victims.

Quinn is proposing the ban of selling assault weapons and wants to require background checks for the transfer of guns in Illinois.

In addition to the nine people who lost their lives over the 4th of July weekend, three more have been shot to death this past weekend.

Police say on Saturday a man was shot in the back as he was standing in the street in front of his home. On Friday, a woman was killed in a domestic dispute, and while another man was killed in a gang-related shooting.

2 deadly weekends? how about every week end and every day? the old saying is as good as it was when first said: when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. I am sure that every gun toting criminal in that fine state will line up at quinn’s door step to turn them in. this guy is as big a joke as his predecessor.
