Officer helps family keep toddler from wandering into the street by installing childproof locks

BUTLER COUNTY, KS – This officer went the extra mile to keep a toddler safe after the child was found wandering near a busy street. KWCH-TV reports that instead of putting the child in protective custody he helped solve the problem.

Officer Travis Pierce told the TV station that he understands the issue. He is a new father too and, “This kid was fascinated with going outside and it was hard for his mom to keep up,”

Lt. Travis Pierce helped the family install special locks to keep the toddler safe. He even went with the boy’s grandmother to Walmart pick them out.

The police department shared the story on their Facebook page. So far the post has almost 1,000 “likes.”
