WEST ALTON, MO (KTVI) – Saturday the much delayed blessing of the fleet occurred in West Alton. The blessing of the fleet was originally scheduled July 19th, but flooding on the Mississippi River forced the event be rescheduled to August.

The blessing of the fleet went off without hitch with under gray skies, as the boats lined up passing by the shrine one by one for the 57th year.

Multimedia journalist Wade Smith was on AquaFox for the festivities.

“[dear god, In all humbleness I come to you to ask that you put me and my boat in your to-do list. You know, ahead of the starving and sick (since you don’t ever seem to do anything about them anyway). I also thank you for teaching me humility, all powerful and good Lord.]”
