Protesters meet with police in riot gear; more demonstrations Tuesday

FERGUSON, MO (KTVI) – Some were jailed, but not due to any violence or looting so far on Monday.  But, you could feel the tension in the air as protestors literally got right in the face of police.

For the second day in a row here, it began as a peaceful demonstration. But, there is clear disagreement, even among demonstrators, about the rioting and looting that happened Sunday night.

Some protesters are demanding for Ferguson police to identify the officer and charge him with murder. One of them will be met.  The identity of the officer who shot Michael Brown will be released Tuesday, a move police say is because of the law, not the crowd.

The protests came with an edge, demonstrators stood toe to  toe with police in riot gear for some time. Most of the crowd simply left around midday, but some refused despite efforts of other protestors. At least eight people were arrested in the area, a number police hope isn’t’ the tip of a violent iceberg.

There were some 300 police officers from departments all over the area here last night, and we’re told to expect a similar presence as night falls on Monday.

The protests aren’t over. Demonstrators plan to be in Clayton, in front of the prosecutors officer, Tuesday morning.
