Cementland fire burns without easy access to water

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Firefighters responded to a structure fire at what has come to be known as Cement LAND. It was once a thriving concrete company.

This old cement factory off of Riverview near Chain Rocks of Bridge was the late Robert Cassily`s next big project. The fire started in a single story building and quickly spread to a second structure. Firefighters from the city and county were forced to run hoses for more then three city blocks in order to reach the fire hydrants on Riverview Blvd. city and county firefighters helped run the hoses and switch out firefighters to prevent heat exhaustion. There is no water supply on the property. There were initial reports that hazardous materials stored on the property might cause an explosion. As a precaution Riverview was closed for a time short time.
