(KTVI)-  Parts of two major highways will be closed this weekend starting Friday night.   That could make for some significant traffic trouble if you're heading to Clayton or Downtown St. Louis.

At 8 p.m. MoDOT will shut down Highway 40 East between Hampton and Forest Park Avenue.  All ramps in the area will be shut down as well.  However, one lane of 40 East will remain open between Hampton and Kingshighway.

The closure is necessary so crews can remove, repair and replace the driving surface on the Highway 40 East bridge over Vandeventer.

At 8 p.m. Friday, crews will also shut down I-170 South between Forest Park Parkway and Highway 40.  That closure is needed so crews can perform preventative maintenance on the Clayton Road Bridge.   All lanes and ramps for both of these projects are slated to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
