(KTVI) - Illinois Senator Dick Durbin is the second highest ranking democrat in the senate. He was in the Metro East Friday where he praised local leaders for bringing some peace to the region.

"The visit of the attorney general helped, but the real driving force appears to be the clergy and local leaders who are stepping up to bring peace to their own community. That really is the answer. Leadership within Ferguson and their own community. Leadership in the area. I'm hopeful they can keep things calm and peaceful and we can move forward with a orderly honest investigation." said Sen. Dick Durbin.

Durbin agreed it is important to give military equipment to local police to help fight crime.
