BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI)-  Authorities are looking for a man who allegedly tried to abduct a 16-year-old teen Monday night.

According to Belleville police, the teen was walking to a convenience store near the 7400 block of West Main when a man putting gas in his car approached her.

The man asked the teen her age and what school she went to.  The victim told police he touched her arm and told her she needed to come with him.

The teen turned away but the suspect continued to ask her to come to his car, saying he wouldn’t hurt her.  That’s when the victim says a police car, unrelated to the incident, approached the area and the suspect left.

He is described as a black male wearing a t-shirt and tan shorts. He also had gray hair and a gray beard. The teen says the man smelled like alcohol.

Police are now working to get surveillance video from the convenience store.
