So, paying $1,000 to rent a turf field isn't such a bad price. That is compared to repairing or re-sodding a natural field which could cost over $10,000, according to Athletic Director Jerry Collins.
In his ten years as Webster's Athletic Director Collins only had to rent out a turf field three times. Two varsity football games in the same season, 6 years ago, because it was a wet season like this one.
According to Chief Meteorologist Dave Murray we've had one of the wettest starts to October in a while. So, at 1pm Friday Webster didn't want to chance "harsh field conditions." They gave Kirkwood a call to help out. When i asked about installing a turf field for Webster Groves he said the possibility is in the works, but it's a touchy subject.
Webster is four-and-one so far this season. They are looking to have a sell out crowd Friday night. They may not have the turnout they once thought because of the rain and filed change
