COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) _ A man is in custody after authorities say he backed a vehicle through the window of a restaurant in downtown Columbia and then fled the scene.

Columbia police Sgt. Chad Gooch told the Columbia Daily Tribune that authorities are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Gooch says four people were taken to the university hospital with injuries.

A diner told the newspaper that he saw a truck back through a window in the rear of the restaurant, then pull away.

The restaurant was evacuated and closed after the crash.
