ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A former employee of the Rockwood School District is now showing up on the Crimestoppers most wanted list, as he faces charges related to child pornography.
Shaun Wattler, 30, of Fenton faces one count of possession of child pornography and eight counts of promoting child pornography. The charges were filed on October 17th of this year, but the cases are dated between March and August of 2012. An undercover police officer working online was led to Wattler, and his home in Fenton. That’s where the material was discovered.
Wattler left the Rockwood School District back in 2012. Officials there say he was an “assistant facilitator” in the district’s “Adventure Club” program, which provided before school and after school care for elementary school students. He worked for the district for eleven years prior to resigning his position in August of 2012. He worked at several of the district’s 19 elementary schools, including Pond Elementary in Wildwood. Officials were unable to provide a specific list of the other schools or dates when Wattle worked for them.
Officials with the district say they never had any problem with or complaint about Wattler while he was employed there.
“The most important thing is we never had any allegations against this employee and never had reason to be concerned about the employee during the time he was here and after. So this is news to us,” Superintendent Dr. Eric Knost said.
The charges do not accuse Wattler of producing any of the pornography, and there is no reason to believe any child under his care was harmed or exploited.
“We have no reason to believe that pertains to any child in our school system, (but) it’s disturbing to hear nonetheless,” Knost said.
The charges accuse Wattler of possessing videos of adult men engaging in a number of graphic sexual acts with minor female children “that appear to be under the age of fourteen years.”
Police say they are still looking for Wattler, who has been charged and will be held on $250,000 when he is arrested.
