VALLEY PARK , MISSOURI ( KTVI)- The Circle of Concern Food Pantry in Valley Park Missouri is beginning their annual Thanksgiving preparations for families in need, but they say they may not be enough for hundreds of families that depend on them for Thanksgiving meals.
With Thanksgiving just weeks away, the shelves are empty and collecting dust. Without donations many families in need could go without food during the holidays.
The Circle of Concern Food Pantry is asking for help. The pantry shelves are almost bare as volunteers prepare for the holiday season . The pantry is so low on food that The Circle of Concern's Executive Director is fearful and says without donations some baskets may not be filled this holiday season. "When I walk around the warehouse and look at the shelves, it make me worry that there won't be enough for Thanksgiving, said Chris Pallozola Executive Director.
The number of people and families who have come to the pantry in Valley Park seeking assistance has increased over the years . Louise Binzel is a client at Circle of Concern. The single mom and a college student says she seeking help for the first time in her life. Binzel says many other families across the country will be waiting in pantry lines in the next few weeks for the food they will serve on Thanksgiving day. "You know there's nothing worst than sitting there at the holiday and not having anything on your table and only the mash potatoes you can come up with, so it's a huge help ," said Binzel.
Many boxes at the pantry are empty and must be filled by Thanksgiving .
In 2013, the pantry fed 27,382 individuals with 44,927 bags of groceries – enough to put a bag on every seat in Busch Stadium, with a few thousand to spare. At Circle, feeding families is just the beginning, though. They also offer financial support, scholarships, job mentoring, children’s programs and holiday events.
