ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) -Webster Groves is looking forward to a big shopping weekend for Small Business Saturday.
The unofficial shopping holiday was started in 2010 by the American Express credit card company. It really improved foot traffic in towns like Webster Groves, which watch customers run for the big box stores. There are virtually no large shoppping chains in Webster Groves.
But with Small Business Saturday on the schedule during the busiest shopping holiday of the season, shop and restaurant owners are looking forward to big bucks. These include businesses that are eco-friendly, women-owned, and owned by people of color.
The nationwide movement is an extension of Black Friday, the day many big-box stores stop running sales deficits ("in the red") and return to profitability ("in the black").
