WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Barack Obama is meeting with a handful of newly elected governors to discuss ways the states and the federal government can work together to promote economic growth.

Among the governors joining Obama for the meeting is Texas’ Republican Gov.-elect Greg Abbott. In his current role as Texas attorney general, he joined 16 other states in filing a lawsuit this week challenging Obama’s immigration executive orders.

Obama made no mention of the lawsuit during brief remarks ahead of the Oval Office meeting. He says one of the things he likes about governors is “they usually don’t have time to be ideological.”

Newly elected governors from Alaska, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island were also taking part in Friday’s meeting.
