ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – St. Louis fire and police are investigating a fatal fire in the 2800 block of Howard near Cass. The fire broke out just after 7 pm at the Jake McKeon Assisted Living Center.

Firefighters attacked the first alarm fire in the bitter cold, with a report of one person trapped. Firefighters attempted to rescue a man trapped on second floor of the center, but were unsuccessful. Officials say the man may have been smoking while using oxygen.

Just last month fire official say they were called to the center for a person smoking while using oxygen.
