WARNING: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS LANGUAGE THAT MAY OFFEND SOME VIEWERS
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – A white police officer held several African-American teens at gunpoint in a video obtained by New Rochelle’s Talk of the Sound. The officer points his weapon at the kneeling teens saying, “Don’t f#@!ing move, guys.” The woman filming the encounter says, “They were having a snowball fight.” Police and the woman recording the scene have very different explanations of what is really going on.
Commissioner Anthony Murphy says there was no snowball fight. Police were responding to a 911 call about a teen pointing a gun at another person. The city of New Rochelle concurs with an official release, “New Rochelle Police were responding to a 911 emergency call reporting a man with gun at that location. The claim was unsustained. The incident will be reviewed by the department.”
The officer is pointing his weapon at the kneeling teens in the video. He frisks a teen with one hand, while pointing his gun with the other. The woman filming the incident on her cell phone says, “This group of guys was having a snowball fight and now a cop has a gun on them.”
A high ranking source tells the New York Daily News that, “The video looks terrible, but it’s completely out of context,” the source said. “It’s a completely different incident than it appears from that snippet. There’s clearly a lot of misunderstanding. The record of the 911 call will by itself illustrate what was going on.”
Officials said they will not release a recording of the 911 call, but may release a transcript of the call.
