ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – City and community leaders in East Saint Louis are hoping to cut down on crime  with sports.

The Belleville News Democrat reports that a midnight basketball league will begin next Friday at the former Mission Elementary School on north 59th street. People 18 and older will be allowed to play from 10pm until 2am. But, players will be required to participate in workshops that will give them skills to improve their lives.

Organizers say it’s a fantastic opportunity to reduce crime by giving people an alternative to get off the streets.
