Police reunite 10-year-old girl with family after teen crush kidnapping

O'FALLON, MO (KTVI)- A 10-year-old girl reported kidnapped was reunited with her family Thursday morning in O'Fallon, Missouri. The child was reported missing around 5:30a.m. from her home located on McCluer Drive. Police found evidence that her home was burglarized. At that point, police set up a checkpoint in the Prairie Village subdivision, not far from the girl's home.

A neighborhood canvass turned up the kidnapping suspect and the victim in a nearby vehicle at around 6am. The car was located near the intersection of Brassel Drive and South Outer Road. The man was taken into custody. Police say the suspect is known to the family.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the kidnapping suspect is a high school senior.  The girl's brother says his friend had a crush on the 10-year-old.  The suspect is a student at Fort Zumwalt West.

The victim's brother tells St. Louis Post-Dispatch that his 18-year-old friend sent a message to his sister saying that he loved her and thought she was cute.

He thought his friend was being nice.  He now considers it a betrayal of trust.

The kidnapping victim  has been taken to an area hospital for treatment. There is no word on her condition.

There are no charges at this time.
