CREVE COEUR, MO (KTVI) - A gunshot victim got to meet the man she says saved her life. FOX2's and KPLR News 11's Dan Gray reported the exclusive story of how a friendship has begun out of tragedy.

A violent and chaotic scene played out Wednesday night on I-70 in Wentzville.  A driver was firing random shots out of his car as he was being chased by police and several vehicles were hit. One of the bullets struck 21-year-old Cierra Palmer in the left shoulder. Cierra told Dan from her hospital bed, "I knew that I couldn't breathe and something had hit me."

An off-duty paramedic, who helped her before anyone else got to the scene, paid her another visit Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur.  Cierra's mother, Cristy Harp greeted him with hugs and tears.  She told him, "I can't thank you enough ray, my family thanks you. You saved my daughter I truly believe that."  Ray Antonacci who is Chief of the Lincoln County Ambulance District and a trained paramedic happened to be driving on the outer road at the time of the shooting.  A passenger with Cierra flagged him down. He put a tube in Cierra's nose to open an airway and started her on oxygen. Cierrra told Ray, "I appreciate it so much like. I feel like I owe you my life now.   I'd probably be dead if you hadn't stopped."

Ray told her, “What I did for you, people can do. People that take c-p-r classes, you just take a CPR class and learn how to open an airway that's all you needed”

But it was a life saving and life changing experience for Cierra and her family. "But I will never drive past another accident without stopping to see if there's anything I can do," said Harp.

Cierra Palmer of Hawk Point remains in intensive care but once she gets better her family wants to stay in contact with Ray.

Ray said: "I'm glad I was able to help."

Cierra said: "Me too thank you so much.

Ray said: "You're welcome."
