ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - The trends for the afternoon seem to be clearing up a bit. The first batch of thunderstorms from western Missouri is largely weakening, with one important exception.
A single cell on the southern flank passing just south of Jefferson City right now will mostly likely remain strong to severe as it lifts east/northeast up into Gasconade and Franklin counties and eventually into the metro St. Louis area around 1:30pm. This lone storm should remain at least as strong and maybe intensify some bringing a large hail and damaging wind threat to a narrow swath from northern/central Gasconade Counties up along Hwy50 towards Union then into western St. Louis metropolitan area.
Once that storm passes the atmosphere may settle down for a few hours while it recharges ahead of what should be some pretty impressive thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening. They will start over western and southwest Missouri and then spread up into St. Louis later this evening into early tonight. These storms will also be severe at times.
