ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - The Cardinals are honoring Red Schoendienst on his 70th anniversary in Major League Baseball. On April 17, 1945,  Albert "Red" Schoendienst made his major league debut for the Cardinals against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Before Friday's game against the Reds the team honored Red with a pre-game ceremony. The players wore special patches on their sleeve with Red's number two in the middle and the words "70 years and counting" around the outside.

The team also launched a year-long social media campaign. They are encouraging fans to share a video message on social media showing their love for Red. Use the hashtag, #LoveRed2.
