(KTVI)- The Alabama Crimson Tide football program Friday scored an important win off the field over a number of football rivals, including the University of Missouri and the University of Illinois, when Head Coach Nick Saban secured the commitment of Lafayette High School Tight End Brendan Scales.

Scales is in Tuscaloosa this weekend for the annual Alabama Football spring scrimmage.

Scales will be a senior for the Lancers this fall and had interest from programs around the country. According to Rivals, Scales had scholarship offers from more than a dozen FBS schools, including Alabama, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan State, Nebraska and Arkansas.

His verbal pledge is non-binding. Football recruits cannot sign letters of intent until next February.
