ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-A man was rescued late Sunday after being stuck in an 18-foot-deep trench in St. Louis. The 36-year-old was buried up to his chest in dirt for almost six hours while working for a property owner on Wyoming, near Gravois. Two other crew members managed to escape the collapse.

Rescuers say the man was able to communicate throughout the rescue process. The man was given oxygen and an IV line during the rescue. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Firefighters are still investigating what caused the trench to collapse.
