COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) – A Macon resident has received her bachelor’s degree more than five decades after she started college.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports 77-year-old Laurel Dale received a bachelor’s degree in general studies, with a minor in history on Saturday from Columbia College.

Dale attended the University of Missouri for one year in the late `50s. She returned to college about three years ago and finished her studies through online classes.

Dale spent several decades as a gemologist and later worked at two banks, but she says she always felt a strong desire to get her degree. Dale says she might try to use her degree to create a program for senior citizens.
