The Cardinals have dropped the first two games of their three game series with the Detroit Tigers. Their latest set back coming on Saturday afternoon, a 4-3 ten inning loss at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals offense hit three home runs off Tigers ace pitcher David Price. Matt Carpenter (7), Peter Bourjos (1) and Jhonny Peralta (6) all homered in the game. But three base running mistakes cost the Cards late in the game. Jason Heyward, Pete Kozma and Matt Holliday were all lost on the base paths due to aggressive base running.

Once again, the Cards starting pitching was ineffective. Tyler Lyons lasted only three and two-thirds innings while allowing three runs. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny admitted after the game that the starting rotation must get deeper into games to save his over worked bullpen.

The Cardinals will try to avoid a three game sweep to the Tigers when the two teams meet Sunday night at Busch Stadium, First pitch is at 7:00 PM, with Lance Lynn on the mound for the Cardinals.
