POLK COUNY, FL – This is one of those stories you have have to see with your own eyes to believe. An elderly Florida man caught on camera slashing tires. The reason: someone sat in his seat at bingo. Bay News 9 reports the woman who had those tires slashed had a lot to say about it.

Ethel Britt, 88, still can’t believe Monday night bingo ended with 2 slashed tires.

“It looked like somebody took an ice pick and slashed both them tires in the same place. I said I wonder who in the world could have done that.” said Ethel Britt.

It didn’t take long to find out. A security camera at the Lake Wales Retirement Home where Ethal was playing bingo caught the culprit. It clearly shows a man jab something into the tire and then he walks to the other side of the van and jabs another tire.

“I said I know him! That’s Fred!” said Ethel Britt.

Fred Smith, 82, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief. Police say he admitted to popping Ethel’s tire’s with an ice pick because she had taken his favorite seat at bingo.

“I was shocked. I tell ya. I couldn’t believe it was him. I had to see it with my own eyes to believe that guy would have done that because I would never have believed it.” said Ethel Britt.

The bingo night fiasco started when Fred evidently missed out on his favorite spot. Ethel says she had no idea he was that mad. She says Fred had no reason to be jealous. She didn’t win big that night in his bingo chair

“That’s my problem, I hardly ever win. He wins all the time and when he yells, he yells loud enough to blow your ear drum.” said Ethel Britt.

To make matters worse, Ethel says she had just put new tires on her van before she headed to the retirement home for bingo.

“I have a hunch, when they find out, he won’t be playing there anymore, so I may not see him again, until we go to court. (laughs)” said Ethel Britt.

As for Ethel, she won’t let this stop here. She plays to be back Monday night to play bingo, sitting wherever she pleases.

Lake Wales police say Fred Smith told them he was sorry for slashing Ethel’s tires.
