ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - Drivers in north St. Louis County will likely be facing substantial delays because of road work set to start this week on two sections of Interstate 270.

Beginning Wednesday at 11 p.m., the Missouri Department of Transportation will close New Florissant Road beneath I-270, between Dunn Road and Jean Drive. Crews will shut down the on and off ramps from I-270 east at New Florissant a little earlier that evening at 8 p.m.

On Thursday at 11 p.m., MoDOT will close New Halls Ferry Road under I-270, from Dunn to Pershall roads. The off-ramp from I-270 east to New Halls Ferry will close that evening around 8 p.m.

On Friday at 8 p.m., the eastbound lanes at New Florissant and New Halls Ferry roads will be reduced to just a pair of through lanes, and routed down and then back up interchange ramps at both locations.

And then on Saturday—again at 8 p.m.—the westbound lanes of I-270 will shift onto the eastbound bridge at New Florissant and New Halls Ferry.

According to MoDOT, these changes are necessary because the bridge sections of I-270 that go over New Florissant and New Halls Ferry are more than 50-years-old and are classified as structurally deficient. Crews will replace the driving surface to extend the life of the bridges until a full replacement is possible.

All of the closures will be in place by next Monday.

I-270 will remain open with the rerouting, but MoDOT is cautioning commuters to expect delays of at least 30 minutes.
