Canine bites suspected armed robber during arrest

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Police were on the hunt for a suspect in a shooting Friday morning St. Louis. Officers arrested the suspected gunman with help from a very alert police dog.

The shooting happened shortly after midnight at the intersection of 9th Street and Lucas Avenue, in downtown St. Louis. Police say the suspect attempted to rob a 25-year-old man.

Authorities say the suspect shot the victim in the hand while trying to rob him.

He took off.

Authorities brought in one of their most reliable and trusted tools, a police dog. They say the dog helped track down the shooting suspect and bit him. Police arrested the suspect.

They haven't identified anyone involved or confirmed the condition of the victim or the suspect.

 

It comes at the kickoff of a very busy weekend downtown.

 

More than 35,000 people are in town for a convention this weekend.

 

That police canine, though, very quickly helping to take a bite out of crime.
