ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - St. Louis City police are thankful police officer shot in the Central West End was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

FOX 2's Lisa Hart is live in front of Barnes-Jewish Hospital with more.

St. Louis City Police Chief Sam Dotson said the officer was wearing a ballistic vest and was struck in the upper torso. Dotson is calling this an ambush and attempt to assassinate a police officer.

He is in the hospital, with non-life threatening injuries and will be released very soon.
