ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Two people are hospitalized this morning after the house they were in suddenly exploded overnight. Three alarms went out on the explosion shortly after 10p.m. Thursday at a home on Thrush near North Broadway.
There was a furious search for victims.
Firefighters spent more than an hour digging through the rubble after getting word there might be someone inside. One person was able to escape. St. Ann police, who were in the area on an unrelated investigation, rescued the second victim and rushed him to the hospital. Both men are in critical condition.
The house was blown into pieces that were scattered for a great distance causing the entire block to be evacuated.
As for a cause, firefighters say they're not speculating yet, though one neighbor tells us off camera they'd been smelling gas for several days.
About eighty firefighters were on the scene.
This is an ongoing investigation.
